Hobby Goals - November '23

Checkout my  Hobby Goals  for more articles November arrived and I was due to attend my third Warhammer Underworlds tournament.  I again did not buy any miniatures during the month, although I did pick up a couple of paints. I decided to take Lady Harrow's Mournflight to the tournament. I had already painted this warband a few years ago for my Nighthaunt Age of Sigmar army. I had recently found a second set of the Myrmourn Banshees in my boxes of miniatures, stored in the loft, and decided to paint them up.  As such, I started the month by painting four Myrmourn Banshees. This allowed me tick off my first hobby goal for the month 'Paint a unit for an existing army' or 'Paint a Warhammer Underworlds warband'. For this unit I used my How I P...

How I Paint - Skaven - Clan Pestilens

Image
With the release of Skabbik Plaguepack for Warhammer Underworlds, I needed a guide to paint up this warband of Plague Monks.  I wanted to go with the classic green robes for these devotees of disease. I was also keen to get a nice luminous look for the funes of the plague censers. This is my guide, I hope you enjoy. How I Paint - Skaven - Warlord Skritch Priming and Underpaint Begin by undercoating the miniature with  Chaos Black  spray Then give the whole miniature, except the weapon blade and the base, a basecoat of  Mournfang Brown . You do not need to be too tidy at this stage. Keep the paint relatively thin so as not obscure any details and make sure it gets into the recesses. For this job, I use an old medium basecoat brush, which has bristles pointing in all directions, or course an airbrush would be faster, but I would avoid using a rattle can. The brown gives a nice warm base to build the colours of the miniature upon. Once the brown was full dry, the...

My Third Warhammer Underworlds Tournament - Agents Clash 2023

Image
Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page  for more articles. On the 11th November 2023, 24 players gathered at the Gamer's Guild in Redhill for the first tournament arranged by Pete and Robin, the Agents of Sigmar. In previous tournaments, I had taken pure Aggro warbands, which I had enjoyed playing but the dice had failed me. This time I wanted to play something with Flex. As I have a large Nighthaunt army for Age of Sigmar, I decided to take Lady Harrow's Mournflight, which I combined with Force of Frost (to make my Ice Scream deck). This deck could be used for control of objectives, but equally be aggressive if necessary. The tournament would be played out as five best-of-one games. I liked the idea of this format, as I would get to play more players than in a best-of-three tournament. Game 1 In the first game, I was drawn against Martin with Garrek's Reavers with Tooth and Claw . I won the roll off and decided to place boards first. I off set Martin's boar...

How I paint - Kurnothi of the Wild Hunt - Wood Elves

Image
I am a big fan of Aelves in Warhammer Underworlds. I also like to paint with a classic palette of colours for each race. The Kurnothi of Skaeth's Wild Hunt are by all accounts Wood Elves. If you are familiar with the lore of the World-That-Was, you may know that the Wood Elves would go to the Oak of Ages and bring forth Orion and his Wild Hunt. Orion was the embodiment of the elven hunter god, Kurnous, in Athel Loren. He was depicted as a giant of an elf with the legs and antlers of a great stag. Very much the original of the Kurnothi in my mind, and maybe a larger future release. I wanted my Kurnothi to be painted in the olive greens and chestnut browns of the Wood Elves from the World-That-Was. Additionally, I have been experimenting with Contrast paints, particularly as washes over a base colour. So, this is my scheme. I must say when I painted these miniatures nearly a year ago, I did a lot of research on the internet and borrowed/stole ideas from all over the place. I did not ...

How I paint - Chaos Daemons - Juggernauts of Khorne

Image
In the Warhammer Lore, the daemon cavalry of Khorne ride to war on Juggernauts. The Juggernauts of Khorne are half daemon half machines, made of bronze and brass with fire for blood. I wanted to capture this description in my painting. As a result, this guide is mainly based on a wide range of metallic paints with a few fiery reds and oranges for good measure.  This guide is for painting the Juggernaut of Khorne not the Bloodletter rider. I did a How  I paint - Chaos Daemons - Bloodletters of Khorne guide a few days ago, this can be should be used for the rider. I also have a guide for Flesh Hounds of Khorne .
