Warhammer Underworlds - Top Picks - Tooth and Claw

Checkout my Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page for more articles.

Nemesis is my preferred format for playing Warhammer Underworlds. However, when I begin playing with a Faction or Rivals deck I am never quite sure which cards to take. My Top Pick guides are the five objectives and five ploys and upgrades that I use when constructing a Nemesis deck. These cards might not be the best but they are the ones I find most useful.

I originally starting this series as a diary for myself. I would take two of these Top Picks and combine them to build a basic deck, with addition of two additional objective cards. Then I could play some games, before using the experience to improve the deck. Having made these list I thought I would share them.

I hope you enjoy.

Basic premise of the Deck

The Tooth and Claw deck, featured in the Gnarlwood core box set, is a formidable Aggro deck designed for dominating your opponent's territory through precise attacks and swift movement. In this guide, we'll delve into its key components and strategies for maximum effectiveness.

Objectives:

Embraced Savagery

An easily attainable Surge card, requiring all friendly fighters to be Savage. Its reliability in any round makes it a top pick and a must-include in your deck.

Move or Die

A straightforward End Phase card, achievable when all fighters possess a move or charge token. Its dice-independent nature ensures consistent scoring, making it a vital inclusion as well.

Paragon of Ferocity

A standard Aggro Surge card, earned when an enemy fighter is eliminated in their territory or the enemy leader is taken out. While reliable, its difficulty increases if opponents abandon their territory, placing it as the third pick.

Ferocious Rampage

This Dual card grants two Glory in the End Phase if all remaining fighters are Savage and no fighters occupy an objective. While the first condition is easily met, the second may pose challenges based on your opponent. Still valuable, but a slightly lower priority.

Hurricane Force

Offering three Glory in the End Phase, this card demands all friendly fighters in enemy territory and no enemies in your own. Achieving this in the initial round can be tricky, but as the game progresses, it becomes more feasible. The potential rewards make it a worthy gamble.

Gambits:

Determined Brutality

This card provides a fighter with either Cleave or Ensnare, significantly enhancing their attack potential. Ideal for crucial situations where success is imperative.

Dark Command

A reliable source of ping damage, perfect for softening up or finishing off opponents. An essential tool for maximizing your offensive capabilities.

Call to Heel

A versatile push card for Beast or Savage fighters, enabling strategic positioning or providing much-needed assistance. It also presents opportunities for pushing enemy fighters under the right conditions.

Reckless Haste

Offering +2 move for the next activation, this card aids in achieving optimal positions for attacks or objective scoring. Despite the Staggered drawback, its utility makes it a useful pick.

Internal Surrender

Granting +1 dice and -1 defense for the remainder of the game, this upgrade is particularly valuable for warbands with low defense. Its selectiveness places it as the fifth pick.

Special Mention: Goreswamp

A game-changer for Khorne warbands, providing bonus movement for all fighters in a round. This tactical advantage can lead to game-altering charges, and it doubles as a domain cancelation tool.

Upgrades:

Gifted Ferocity

A standard +1 dice upgrade with the potential for a free play due to its mutation status. A top choice for enhancing your fighters' offensive capabilities.

Stubborn to the Bone

This upgrade grants invaluable benefits, including immunity to being pushed and a defence reroll. Essential for counterattacks and defence.

Natural Hunter

While a standalone +1 move might seem modest, this upgrade grants Ensnare against Savage or trapped targets, adding significant tactical value.

Feral Instincts

Offering +1 damage, this upgrade is powerful but comes with a slight drawback, making it a solid yet slightly lower-priority choice.

Feral Alteration

Providing +1 wound, +1 move, and Knockback 1, this upgrade offers a range of valuable buffs. However, its limitation to smaller fighters places it as the fifth pick.

My Final Thoughts

With the Tooth and Claw deck at your disposal, you have a potent tool for aggressive gameplay. A great deck to combine with Xandire's Truthseekers or Gnarlspirit Pack. Tailor your strategy to capitalize on its strengths and adapt to your opponents. Remember, in the ever-changing Underworlds, seizing glory is a pursuit that endures. Good luck!
