Hobby Goals - July 23

June '23                                                                                                  August '23

As July arrived, I felt the need for a well-deserved break, or at least a change of pace, from my painting endeavors. Surprisingly, by the end of June (181 days into the year), I had managed to paint an impressive 82 miniatures, averaging one miniature every 2.2 days! My focus had been on my Warhammer Underworlds collection, with 46 of them painted so far this year. Since the beginning of the year, six captivating warbands, including the Looncourt, were released, adding up to a total of 24 miniatures. Thankfully, my efforts were paying off, and I was making significant progress in reducing my backlog. Despite purchasing 42 new miniatures this year, I had already managed to paint 82 of them, leading to a gradual decline in my "pile of shame."

As July commenced, I set my sights on completing Ephilim, thus concluding the Pandaemonium warband and all the Wyrdhollow warbands to date. Drawing from my experience with painting the Gaunt Summoner, I approached Ephilim in a similar style but with greater skill honed over the years. With Ephilim now beautifully painted, I proudly checked off "Paint a Warhammer Underworlds warband" from my hobby goals.

Having successfully finished the Wyrdhollow warbands, I redirected my attention to the Gnarlspirit Pack from the Gnarlwood expansion. Inspired by my earlier work with the Godsworn Hunt, I aimed to paint these Darkoath warriors in a matching scheme, enabling me to use both warbands together in Warcry. With four miniatures from this warband painted, I triumphantly ticked off my second Warhammer Underworlds goal for the month.

Next on my painting agenda was the completion of the Looncourt. Having already painted four out of the seven miniatures in previous months, I took on the challenge of Pokin' Snark. To achieve the desired look, I consulted two of my painting guides: Moonclan Grots and Squigs.

During July, I managed to paint six more miniatures, but for once, I resisted the temptation to buy any new ones. This brought the total number of miniatures painted this year to an impressive 88, with 52 belonging to the Warhammer Underworlds range. Two more hobby goals were triumphantly achieved: "Do not buy any miniatures in a month" and "Paint more miniatures in a month than are bought."

Although I had intended to take it easy with less painting in July, I was delighted with the progress I made on my hobby goals and the advancement of my Warhammer Underworlds warbands.
