How to paint Seraphon green flesh and scales

The Warhammer Underworlds miniatures are great. The Seraphon Starblood Stalkers were the fourth warband to be released for Season 4, Direchasm. I decide to paint these miniatures as soon as they dropped through the door on release day. All I can say is they have been a delight to paint. They are detailed but not overly so. Each model has plenty of character and the big guy, Klaq- Trok just looks mean. When starting to paint this warband I recommend staring with Xepic before painting the rest of the Skinks (Tek and Huachi). These will allow you build up the colour palette you intend to use on this group of miniatures. I wanted green skin for my lizards, so below is my recipe, I hope you enjoy.

This a different guide to my usual ones. I put this on together after someone on Instagram asked how I had painted my skinks. I had not intended to do a guide so I did not take any photos of the process.

Painting seraphon

 Paints required:

  • Mechanicum Standard Grey spray
  • Deathworld Forest
  • Ogryn Camo
  • Zandri Dust
  • Caliban Green
  • Castellan Green
  • Athonian Camoshade
  • Nuln Oil
  • Loren Green
  • Straken Green
  • Elysian Green
  • Flayed One Flesh
  • Contrast Meduim
  • Biel-Tan Green
  • Lahmian Medium

Undercoat with Mechanicum Standard Grey spray.

Basecoat the flesh (not the scales on the back) with a 3:1 mix of Deathworld Forest and Ogryn Camo

Paint the chest and underbelly with Zandri Dust. Draw the paint towards the middle of the chest. This causes the pigment to build up in the centre and gives a better transition from the green on the edges.

Paint the scales with a 1:1 mix of Caliban Green and Castellan Green.

Wash the flesh with Athonian Camoshade. Wash the scales with Nuln Oil. These two steps should be done to together so that the Athonian Camoshade mixes slightly with the Nuln Oil on the edges of the Scales.

The flesh was then highlighted with a mix of 1:2 Elysian Green and Lahmian Medium. The underbelly and the scales were avoided

The flesh was then highlighted with a 1:2 mix of Ogryn Camo and Lahmian Medium. This time the underbelly was highlighted but again the scales were avoided.

The underbelly was given a final highlight with a 1:2 mix of Flayed One Flesh and Lahmian Medium.

To tie all of the flesh together, it was given a wash with a 1:4 mix of Biel-Tan Green and Contrast Medium; again the scales were avoided.

The scales were then edge highlighted with Loren Green. Small edge highlights were then applied using Straken Green.

How did you find the method? Have you any questions? Let me know in the comments. Happy Hobbying.
